End Sexual Assault: Once and For ALL

Featured Charity: RAINN

One of the Biggest Problems in the World today is Female Sexual Assault! Approximately 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. 1 out of every 3! What’s worse, Sexual assault is often underreported due to the fact that many survivors fear stigma, retaliation, or not being believed; meaning the actual number could even be higher than 1 in 3!! (Source: WHO)

What makes sexual abuse even more concerning is that of the sexual assaults reported, only a fraction of reported sexual assaults lead to convictions, and survivors often face daunting legal processes and societal scrutiny. (Source: National Sexual Violence Resource Center). We need global solutions As of many Yesterdays Ago!!

Solution 1: Strict, Comprehensive legislation is a MUST!! Such laws must lessen or possibly eliminate altogether the statute of limitations for sexual assault victims. This can be done if women, especially women who’ve experienced sexual abuse in their lives, are elected to positions of legislative power.

Solution 2: Other Countries implementing as many elements into their laws such as Sweden’s victim-centered approach, Norway’s implementation of specialized training for law enforcement and healthcare professionals, Canada’s updating its criminal code to better define consent and implementing initiatives to improve access to support services for victims, and New Zealand’s establishment of specialized sexual violence courts would bring the world closer to holding sexual assault perpetrators accountable for their actions while empowering women to come forward in instances of sexual assault. (Sources for each government’s implementation are on their own respective Government’s website).

Solution 3: Worldwide Sex Education! Comprehensive sex education that includes discussions on consent, boundaries, and healthy relationships can help prevent sexual violence. Promoting awareness campaigns to challenge harmful attitudes and stereotypes is crucial. Each of the countries listed above included sex education & awareness campaigns in their respective legislative reforms!

Solution 4: Fully Paid for support services for sexual assault survivors is a MUST! This includes counseling, medical assistance, and legal aid, can empower survivors and facilitate their healing process.

Solution 5: Community awareness programs, especially in areas where sexual assault are most common and/or most possible such as areas with college dorms go a long way in letting women know help is out there! Discussions on gender equality, bystander intervention training, and fostering supportive environments can create a culture that condemns sexual violence.

Solution 6: Addressing systemic inequalities and empowering marginalized groups can reduce their vulnerability to sexual violence and ensure their voices are heard in prevention and response efforts.

Let’s end this endemic once and for All!
